Concrete Finisher Supervisor

Alka Pool Construction Ltd. specializes in constructing high value poolscapes and has built a very successful business for over 65 years. We are looking to hire a Cement Finisher Supervisor in a permanent full-time position to grow with the company.

The role of a Cement Finisher Supervisor includes cutting and finishing of Shotcrete and Plaster applications of pools, whirlpools and various types of waterscapes as well as cross-training in all aspects of construction in the swimming pool industry at Alka Pool’s various project sites. A successful candidate is a person who; is an effective communicator (verbal and written), a good team leader, problems solves, has a mechanical sense, enjoys physical work in the outdoors, is experienced in various aspects of construction (commercial and residential) and must have a minimum of 3-5 years experience directly in the concrete swimming pool industry.

Role & Responsibilities

Swimming pool construction involving but not limited to:

  • Supervise, coordinate and schedule the activities of construction workers engaged in cement cutting & finishing, tile setting and plastering in residential and commercial projects.
  • Establish methods to meet work schedules and coordinate work activities with company project managers.
  • Resolve work problems and recommend measures to improve productivity and product quality.
  • Layout and establish guidewires for shotcrete cutting (vertical and horizontal planes)
  • Check formwork, granular base and steel reinforcement materials and direct placement of concrete into forms or onto surfaces according to grade.
  • Fill hollows and remove high spots to smooth freshly poured concrete.
  • Operate power vibrator to compact concrete.
  • Level top surface of concrete according to grade and depth specifications using straight edge or float.
  • Impart desired finish to concrete surfaces using hand and power tools.
  • Waterproof, dampproof and restore concrete surfaces.
  • Repair, resurface and replace worn or damaged sections of floors, walls and other concrete structures.
  • Answering to foreman, Project Managers or COO. Provide work progress report to project managers.
  • Supervise, coordinate and schedule the activities of related apprentices and helpers.
  • Train workers in job duties.
  • Requestion materials and supplies.
  • Completing timesheet bi-weekly
  • Completing work orders for project cost plus work
  • Work may require occasional out of town work for periods of 1-3 weeks at a time.
  • Duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • At least 3-5 years experience specific to cement finishing in the swimming pool construction industry.
  • Highly organized, long-term planner, team leader
  • Knowledge of commercial construction sites including safety requirements.
  • Good written and oral English skills as work language is English
  • A positive, can-do attitude that thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated and works well both as a team member and independently.

Education: Secondary School

 

Own Tools:

  • Hard hat, safety gear: Steel toe safety boots (CSA Approved), visibility vest, etc.
  • Valid Driver’s licence
  • Hand tools

Compensation: $38.50/hour.

Compensation includes a competitive hourly wage +40 hrs / week with basic medical & extended health and dental (group) benefits upon completion of probationary period (3mos).

Position is full-time work within the lower mainland and on various project sites throughout BC (mainly GVRD, Vancouver Island, Squamish/Whistler/Pemberton, Sunshine Coast).
