LEADERS AND PIONEERS

Dr. R. Neil Lowry was a noted consultant and respected educator to the pool industry in Canada and the United States. He was an active member of the Pool & Hot Tub Council of Canada and the only Canadian voting member of the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals’ Recreational Water Quality Committee. He served as an advisor to the board of directors of the Professional Pool Operators of America and was passionately devoted to elevating the understanding of water chemistry within the industry.
Neil had been involved in the Chemical Specialties Industry since about 1973, after earning his doctorate from Cornell University in Chemistry and his masters from University of Michigan in Business Administration. He founded Lowry School of Pool & Spa Chemistry in 1980 and taught thousands across Canada over the course of the next 26 years. In 1985 he established Lowry & Associates the master distributor for Taylor Technologies in Canada since 1989.
Neil was continually a featured speaker at many of the industry’s educational events. As a consultant to government agencies he helped shape pool and spa regulations in Canada under the auspices of the Ontario Ministry of Health. He was the original author of “Pool & Spa Chemistry: A Testing & Treatment Guide,” widely regarded as the gold standard of water quality management.
The Industry Achievement Award was bestowed upon Dr. Lowry in 2006.
